Throughout the history of science have emerged various schools of thought such as empiricism, Dialectical Materialism, Positivism, Phenomenology etc. Which have led to different paths in pursuit of knowledge, though in recent decades such currents have been polarized into two main approaches: the quantitative approach and the qualitative approach to research. In this review, both approaches are defined, the process steps of the investigation are presented generically and applies both perspectives, defines the characteristics of each paradigm and proposes a vision for research that involves the possibility of mixing two modes in the generation of knowledge in the same study, which called for multi-method approach.Downloads
